Social Ills: Illegal Street Racing..."Rempit"

Illegal Street Racing may be a "quick rush" but it is illegal and deadly. A few seconds of fun may lead to serious injury or death to you, your passengers, or an innocent bystander. It may also lead to criminal prosecution, jail time, and hefty fines. This is just for street racing. If someone crashes, and someone is injured or killed, you could be arrested. In addition, many agencies and municipalities are enacting law to make simply being at a street race a convictable offense. Many are also seizing and crushing vehicles impounded at street races. What does this mean? This means that if you are at a street race, driving or not, you can be arrested and your vehicle impounded, seized, and crushed. If your vehicle is financed, you are still responsible for the payments, regardless of whether your vehicle was seized or not. This means you make payments on a crushed car!

Vandalism

Vandalism is not a new phenomenon affecting Malaysia. It has been one of the outcomes of the current social problems affecting younger generations in Malaysia today. Although the issue and the basic understanding of vandalism is known to every Malaysian, it has not motivated public, government, professionals or academicians to produce further research and studies regarding this issue in the urban open space environment.

The results of vandalism in Malaysia or in other countries can be seen in a variety of locations: at bus stops; on signage and billboards; on walls at selected buildings in neighbourhood areas; and also on public facilities in parks and urban open space areas. Vandalism and graffiti may occur in the most unthinkable places, on signage, building walls, bus stands,on plants and more. Absence of graffiti, damage and litter may indicate a cared-for environment, and a cared-for environment may suggest that it is safe for the community to use.

Gangsterism...

Gangsterism is common in a developing nation such as Malaysia and we have heard a lot about it occurring in schools. It has been reported that in developed countries, schoolchildren are increasingly involved in gangs.

To curb this social ill, parents, educators and society at large should be aware of what is going on among our youths. Though there are various psychological and physical factors that cause a person to choose to become a gang member, here are some basic suggestions for parents/guardians to help nurture their children with love and respect.Gangsters are a threat to society and you can be considered a gangster if you are involved in any of these activities:

-Extort money from shop owners, hawkers and the like.
-Receive payment for threatening others or to beat someone up.
-Protect/cover-up gambling, prostitution, and drug trafficking syndicates.
-Ransom people for money.
-Be a part of organised crime.
-Force anyone to join a gang and its illegal activities

What is bullying??

Bullying is when someone keeps doing or saying things to have power over another person. Some of the ways they bully other people are by: calling them names, saying or writing nasty things about them, leaving them out of activities, not talking to them, threatening them, making them feel uncomfortable or scared, taking or damaging their things, hitting or kicking them, or making them do things they don't want to do.

Have any of these things happened to you? Have you done any of these things to someone else? Really, bullying is wrong behaviour which makes the person being bullied feel afraid or uncomfortable

Why do some people bully?

There are a lot of reasons why some people bully.

They may see it as a way of being popular, or making themselves look tough and in charge. Some bullies do it to get attention or things, or to make other people afraid of them. Others might be jealous of the person they are bullying. They may be being bullied themselves. Some bullies may not even understand how wrong their behaviour is and how it makes the person being bullied feel.

Who should be blamed??

Moral decay among the youth is the most serious problems that we are facing now. We also blame mass media and internet as the factors that influence our youth. Don’t we ever think that we as the parents and guidance are the one who are very close to them? Even though we are unable to be with them for the whole day, but as the effective and responsible parents, they will use the precious time even it is just only 3 to 4 hours to spend their times with the children. Talk to them softly and tell them what is the good and bad behaviors so they can think positively and being
assertive when come to the negative behaviors and will be not influence by
it.

Depression..why it is happening?

Children who were less socially competent in childhood were more likely to have symptoms of anxious or depressed mood in adolescence. Similarly, young people who were less socially competent in adolescence were at greater risk for symptoms of anxiety and depression in young adulthood. The findings remained the same when the researchers took into account some other possible explanations, such as intellectual functioning, the quality of parenting, social class, and such problems as fighting, lying, and stealing. And the results were generally the same for both males and females

Alcohol Abuse-Dont waste your life with this thing!

Alcohol is a leading cause of death among youth, particularly teenagers. It contributes substantially to adolescent motor vehicle crashes, other traumatic injuries, suicide, date rape, and family and school problems. Gambling

Characters of the gamblers..please take note!

Lying
Compulsive gamblers usually try to hide their problem from their spouses, families, colleagues and friends.

They may lie about the extent of their gambling debts or to explain their gambling outings. They may even claim to have won money when in fact they have lost.

Borrowing money
What do compulsive gamblers do to get out of financial difficulties caused by gambling?

They borrow. From family, friends, colleagues, even strangers, often hiding the reason why they need the money. Then, they start gambling again to "make up" their losses.

Betting more and more money
Compulsive gamblers are a little like people with alcohol or drug problems - they're constantly looking for ways to increase the dose.

This means betting more and more money to achieve the "high" they seek.
